In 2007, P&G set five-year goals that embedded sustainability objectives into their business.
Products
Sustainable Innovation Products are products that have a significantly reduced environmental footprint but still deliver great product performance. In 2007, they came up with a goal to develop $50 billion in these Sustainable Innovation Products and reached $52 billion in cumulative sales. Brands of these products include Pampers, Tide, and Ariel.
Operations
Five years ago their goal was to deliver an additional 20% reduction in energy consumption, CO2 emissions, disposed waste and water consumption from all P&G facilities. They have delivered production-adjusted improvements for all four footprints. They achieved their 20% reduction goal for Water and Waste, but fell short for CO2 and Energy. P&G is still dedicated to driving future reductions.
Social Responsibility
P&G announced two very ambitious five-year goals to accomplish between 2007 and 2012. The first was to help 300 million children around the world with programs that enable them to live, learn and thrive. The second goal was to deliver 4 billion liters of clean water to prevent 160 million days of disease and save 20,000 lives.
Although ambitious, P&G exceeded their aspirations. They helped over 400 million children around the world and delivered 4.22 billion liters of clean water. This prevented more than 170 million days of disease and saved over 22,000 lives.
